Registration fills quickly for the Vail Recreation District's youth summer sports camps, so sign up early! Camps provide children ages four and older with an opportunity to develop new skills and refine existing talents in baseball, basketball, sports training, lacrosse, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, tennis, soccer and more.

Rocky Mountain Baseball Camp | June 11-5, 2012 | Registration

Participants will learn new baseball skills and build on natural talents during this five-day camp. Led by Colorado State University Pueblo coach Stan Sanchez, this is a fantastic opportunity for players of all ability levels. A week-long summer camp for children ages four and older that not only includes gymnastics, but also outdoor adventures such as hiking, visiting local parks and excursions to Dobson Ice Arena, Vail Nature Center and more. The VRD's new youth martial arts camps will introduce children ages five to 12 to all aspects of martial arts. For all ability levels, and the camps are run by Vail Martial Arts Academy instructor Mathew Bayley. They include instruction on all major Japanese, Korean, Chinese and American martial arts, plus instruction from the national, award-winning Alert Kids Kidnap Prevention Program. This multi-sport program was developed to give children ages 4 to 7 a positive first step into athletics. The essentials of baseball, basketball and soccer are taught in a safe, structured environment with lots of encouragement and a big focus on fun. Games and activities are designed to allow campers to explore balance, movement, hand/eye coordination and skill development at their own pace. Skyhawks staff are trained to handle the specific needs of young athletes. Sport-Specific Requirements:
All participants receive a T-shirt and a merit award. The participant-to-coach ratio is approximately 8:1 Participants should bring appropriate clothing, two snacks, a water bottle, running shoes and sunscreen.

The Vail Golf Club offers five sessions of three-day PAR and Birdie camps this summer. In addition, the Youth Foundation's First Tee of Eagle County will offer a variety of summer programs, many of which take place at the Vail Golf Club. These include PAR, Birdie, Player's League and Girls' Night Out Programs.

Lacrosse combines some of the basic skills used in soccer, basketball, and hockey into one fast-paced, high-scoring game. Athletes will learn all the fundamentals of stick handling, cradling, passing, and shooting in a fun, non-checking environment. Our staff helps campers learn not only the sport of lacrosse, but also important life skills such as respect, teamwork, and discipline. A camp for high school-age players who are looking to either learn the sport of beach volleyball or improve their skills. Players will be grouped according to ability with a maximum of 10 players per coach. The camp will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. then again from 1-3 p.m. for grades 9-12 and cost $125 per player. Bob Johnson Hockey School | July 17-23 | Registration
Dobson Arena hosts an exciting youth hockey camp every July. Now in its 26th year, Bob Johnson Hockey School has become as annual reason to vacation in Vail in the summer. The camp focuses on the fundamentals of hockey and offers three hours of on-ice instruction with an additional hour of instruction off the ice. Coaches include Mark Johnson, head coach of the 2010 Women's Olympic Ice Hockey team silver medalist and also a player on the 1980 Olympic Team who pulled off the Miracle on Ice.

This camp focuses on players' shooting techniqe improvement to give participants an edge needed in a competitive basketball environment. Instruction will focus on individual shot mechanic analysis and a corrective action plan; form shooting instruction and training; progressive shooting practices and competitions; as well as shooting charts with effective tracking systems.

Skyhawks Flag Football Camps teach the core skills of passing, catching and de-flagging, as well as, defensive positioning while delivering fun and exciting action. Each camp is organized into training environments that are designed to prepare kids to be champions both on and off the field, and all camps conclude with the Skyhawks Bowl, an exhilarating and action packed game that gives campers a chance to show off their skills
Vail Tennis Center Youth Tennis Camps | TBD | Monday to Friday 1-4 p.m.
The Tennis Center offers four weeks of Youth Tennis Camps this summer. The camps are for ages six to teens and cost $160 for VRD residents and $185 for guests. In addition, junior tennis lessons take place throughout the summer with a ratio of six students per coach. Lessons are from 9 to 10 a.m. for ages five to six, 10 to 11 a.m. for ages seven to nine, 11 a.m. to noon for ages 10 to 12 and noon to 1 p.m. for ages 13 to 17. Costs are $65 per week or $60 per week for consecutive weeks. Call 479-2294 to register.
